Description

Discuss the therapeutic process and therapeutic alliance as case studied in Irvin Yalom’s Love’s Executioner. Is the therapy working? Explain. Sterman emphasized that NLP assist-therapist to be more effective by identifying the client’s favored representational system as a means to enhance communication and elicit information (p. 29) by establishing rapport through matching and pacing. That is, meeting the client verbally in the sensory mode, and non- verbally using the tone of voice. Oh, and one last thing I have to highlight upon ending my review, this piece on experiencing "crushes":

Love's Executioner is one of those rare books that suggests both the mystery and the poetry of the psychotherapeutic process. The best therapists are at least partly poets. With this riveting and beautifully written book, Irvin Yalom has joined their ranks (Erica Jong) Ultimately, I think my problems with the book stem from the fact that Dr. Yalom expresses feelings that are just so very human (he even fantasizes about a patient at one point - the only beautiful one, of course), and I'm not used to thinking of psychologists as anything other than their professional fronts. It's like finding out that your grade school teacher doesn't actually live in the classroom. Of course not, but it's strange nonetheless. Admirably, he admits to having these faults, so kudos to him for that. Still, you get the feeling that he's descended from his alabaster tower to bestow this book on the reading populace. I do not like to work with patients who are in love. Perhaps it is because of envy—I, too, crave enchantment. Perhaps it is because love and psychotherapy are fundamentally incompatible. The good therapist fights darkness and seeks illumination, while romantic love is sustained by mystery and crumbles upon inspection. I hate to be love’s executioner. (c) Book Genre: Autobiography, Counselling, Health, Medicine, Memoir, Mental Health, Nonfiction, Philosophy, Psychiatry, Psychology, Science, Short Stories, Social Science, Social WorkInspired ... He writes with the narrative wit of O. Henry and the earthy humor of Isaac Bashevis Singer ( San Francisco Chronicle)

The saying, “You can’t make this stuff up” lives in the cases Irvin D. Yalom shares with us. Considering that not much action happens in most of the stories, each has its own way of reaching out and touching you, deeply. Some stories don’t just touch, they grab and hold on. We all, each of us, struggle. In excellent narrative form, Yalom consistently weaves this thread throughout and between the stories. This connected commiseration binds the reader/listener to the perspectives of both the therapist and his patients, while it also keeps the reader/listener in full appreciation of the art of narrative, simply for the sake of story, which in this collection happens to be true and, as such, more intriguing. I think my quarry is illusion. I war against magic. I believe that, though illusion often cheers and comforts, it ultimately and invariably weakens and constricts the spirit. (c)

Psychotherapy is an interpersonal and relational interference exercised by skilled psychotherapist to assist patients in problems related to day to day life and existence. This frequently contains growing individual sense of comfort and reducing skewed upsetting incidents in life. In this case, psychotherapist make use of a variety of procedures based on observed relationship building, conversation, communication and behaviour transformation and that are intended to recover the mental wellness of a client to develop relationship. Maybe it's because I'm coming off the tails of "Shrill" by Lindy West, where she beautifully depicts the radical notion that a woman of any size has value. One of the best lines in Shrill, to paraphrase, is when Lindy says that her entire body is her - when she is at her thinnest, her body is all her. When she is at her fattest, her body is all her - there is not a thin lady waiting to come out. She talked about fat as a feminist issue, and how it plays into the objectification of women, and how women are taught that to have value, they have to deprive themselves, to hate their bodies, to tailor make themselves for the male gaze. Buvo vietų, kai pagalvojau, jog psichologo/psichoterapeuto darbas tarsi intelektinė kova. Lyg kokie šachmatai. Specialistas narplioja jūsų gyvenimo, minčių ir jausmų labirintą. Pacientas kartais tam priešinasi. Laaabai įdomu. Taip pat Yalomas pateikia nemažai filosofinių pamąstymų apie gyvenimą, apie dažniausiai žmones kamuojančias problemas. urn:lcp:lovesexecutioner00yalo_0:epub:a4f73c79-a26a-445a-aecc-acd8f9728eb9 Extramarc University of Toronto Foldoutcount 0 Identifier lovesexecutioner00yalo_0 Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t3806752g Isbn 9780465042807
