This is pitched as "Ninth House" meets "The Raven Boys" meets "The Atlas Six". Let me tell you how true that is. I've read all of them and I can CONFIRM. 𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕’𝒔 𝒐𝒏 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒅𝒕

I know that the author is Deaf as well, and it was amazing to see that represented so well in this book. Being Deaf isn’t a handicap or something to pity: it’s a fact of life and with a couple of accommodations such as ASL, CIs, or well lit areas for conversation, Deaf persons live perfectly happy lives. The second day of testing, the aspirants had been called one by one into a little wan room by a little wan man, made to sit in a polypropylene chair with the legs gone loose. There, the darkness had pressed cool and close. It fell across her lap in shallow pools of blue. It coiled against her like a happy cat. I’m Lane,” she said. She spoke to Hayes, but she looked at him. It felt as though she was daring him to say it again.

Delaney Meyers-Petrov is tired of being seen as fragile just because she's Deaf. So when she's accepted into a prestigious program at Godbole University that trains students to slip between parallel worlds, she's excited for the chance to prove he... We’ll start with a positive first; it’s refreshing to have a deaf main character in a book that’s written by a deaf author. There’s a lot of lived-in experience that feels present within the narrative and it really opened my eyes to certain aspects that I had not thought of before.

Another thing I didn’t like about the writing was the passage of time. Long stretches of time would pass from one paragraph to the next (for example: it would go from dawn to afternoon in 1 paragraph), and a lot of the time it was only mentioned a couple of paragraphs later, so I’d be reading it all confused like “I *think* it’s a new day????? Idk??????”. This, in addition to the “missing scenes” and unclear goal of the story, left me very confused. The romance in the book is present but I would say it’s like reading Shakespeare or Greek mythology so it might come off as flat for some people but I liked it just like that!✨Fated mates✨ is the trope for this. Your presence is expected at the Godbole building, auditorium B, on the morning of September 1st. More information pertaining to your placement can be accessed on the global student portal. This shouldn’t have come as a surprise. He’d known she’d be here today. Lane. His Lane. In his school. In his personal space. In his immediate orbit. He’d been briefed of her imminent arrival well in advance. Warned, really.A paranormal thriller laced with twists and revelations that will stop your heart' Aiden Thomas, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of CEMETERY BOYS disclaimer: i completely agree that dark magic is haram. i agree that the occult is haram. but my interpretation of this book wasn’t that of magic because none of the characters use magic. this read to me like a group of characters with superpowers and i read it as such. The book itself is written beautifully. Andrew has her descriptions nailed down pat; she is wonderful at crafting worlds and getting readers to see, smell, and taste what she does. There were so many lines where I read them and was like "oh yeah, this is going to be in an edit for this book". I love some poetic prose, and The Whispering Dark often had that. He knew Price would know. The boy was a walking encyclopedia. unforgivably smug in the understanding that he was, more often than not, the smartest person in the room. "I have not failed ten thousand times," he said, speaking over the muffled clash of swords, "Tve successfully found ten thousand ways that won't work.” Long sigh of...this book is why I'm falling out of love with YA. Not this book specifically, but this book as a representation of a writing trend that is becoming increasingly prominent within YA fantasy.
